Kie AI Pricing: API, Credits and Kie AI vs Higgsfield

Kie AI sells API access to image, video and chat models through prepaid credits worth about half a cent each. This article breaks down what those credits buy, how the API behaves under load, and how the bill compares with Higgsfield's monthly plans for a creator making 100 clips.

Kie AI Pricing: API, Credits and Kie AI vs Higgsfield

Founder of Picasso IA

Kie AI pricing looks simple on paper: you load a prepaid wallet, and every image, video clip or chat request pulls credits out of it. The catch is that a single credit is worth about half a cent, so the per-job numbers look tiny until you multiply them by a few hundred generations. Higgsfield, the name that keeps showing up next to it in search results, works the opposite way. You pay a monthly subscription and get a fixed credit allowance that resets every billing cycle. This article puts both on the same scale, shows what 100 generations cost on each, and points out where a browser-based platform like PicassoIA changes the math.

💡 Snapshot warning: the figures below come from public pricing pages and hands-on reviews checked in October 2026. Both platforms adjust rates often, and review sites disagree with each other by a few dollars, so confirm the live number before you pay.

How Kie AI Credits Work

Handwritten budget ledger, calculator and receipts on a wooden desk

Kie AI is a pay-as-you-go gateway. You top up a wallet, then each generation or chat request deducts credits. There is no monthly plan to cancel and no seat license, which is the first big difference from Higgsfield.

One Credit Is About $0.005

Most reviews put the exchange rate at 1 credit = roughly $0.005. That makes 1,000 credits about $5 and turns every price into simple arithmetic:

  • 18 credits is about $0.09
  • 24 credits is about $0.12
  • 100 credits is about $0.50
  • 400 credits is about $2.00

Image models typically burn 10 to 50 credits per generation, while video models usually take 100 to 500 credits per clip.

Recharge Tiers and Expiry

The smallest reported top-up is $5 for about 1,000 credits. Bigger packs add a bonus: a $500 top-up has been listed at about 105,000 credits, which works out to roughly $0.0048 per credit. The middle tiers sit between those two, so check the live billing page for the exact bonus.

Top-upCredits (reported)Price per credit
$5about 1,000about $0.0050
$500about 105,000about $0.0048

Two policies matter more than the bonus. Credits do not expire, and the platform states that failed tasks are not charged. If you generate in bursts, once a month or once a quarter, that is a real advantage over any plan that resets on a fixed date.

What Kie AI Charges per Model

Kie's homepage advertises discounts between 10% and 75% against official provider rates. Those discounts are the whole reason people look at it, so the next tables list the numbers reviewers have actually recorded.

Image Prices

Image rates are the cheapest part of the bill:

ModelResolutionApproximate price
GPT Image 21K$0.03
GPT Image 22K$0.05
Nano Banana 21K$0.04
Nano Banana Pro1K or 2K18 credits, about $0.09
Nano Banana Pro4K24 credits, about $0.12
Seedream 5 Pro1K$0.035

One review puts the official price of GPT Image 2 at 1K near $0.22. If that is accurate, Kie's $0.03 is an 86% discount, which is the kind of gap that tends to shrink over time. Budget with the current rate, not the best case.

Video Prices

Video is where credits drain fast:

ModelClipApproximate price
Veo 3 Fast8 seconds$0.40
Veo 3 (quality tier)8 seconds$2.00
Veo 3.11080pabout $1.28
Kling 2.1 Standard5 seconds$0.125
Kling 2.1 Pro5 seconds$0.25

A quality-tier Veo 3 clip costs five times what a Veo 3 Fast clip does, so picking the tier is the biggest lever on the bill.

💡 No verified Kie rate for Seedance 2.0 turned up, so it is left out of the tables instead of guessed.

Chat Models by Token

Kie also resells chat models, billed per million tokens instead of per job. Cost scales with prompt length and output length, which makes it harder to forecast than a flat per-image price. Cap the output tokens and log usage per request. If you only need a chat model for writing prompts, PicassoIA lists Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash in its large language models collection, usable in the browser with no billing code.

What the Kie AI API Gives You

Software engineer at a standing desk in a bright startup office

Kie AI is an API-only platform. A Playground lets you test a prompt before you write code, but there is no consumer editor, no timeline and no asset library. You are buying a pipe, not a studio.

Async Jobs and Rate Limits

Every generation follows the same loop: create a task, poll its status or wait for a webhook, then download the file. You never get the result in the same HTTP response.

The reported limit is about 20 new requests per 10 seconds. Go over it and you receive HTTP 429, and rejected tasks are not queued, so your code needs a retry with backoff. For a batch of 500 images that is a small throttle. For a public app with traffic spikes, it is a design constraint.

Files Vanish After 14 Days

Generated media stays available for roughly 14 days, and request logs for around two months. Copy every output to your own storage, such as an S3 or R2 bucket, the moment a task succeeds. Skipping that step is the most common way to lose work you already paid for.

What You Give Up for Price

A hands-on review sums up the deal: stability can sit slightly below the official providers, as the cost of the lower price. Keep a fallback model or provider for anything customer-facing, and use the cheap route for batch jobs where a retry costs nothing.

Higgsfield Pricing in Plain Numbers

Hands holding a printed pricing sheet with a pen underlining one row

Higgsfield is a creative app first. You log in, pick a model such as Kling or Seedance, and spend credits from a monthly allowance. A separate developer API exists, but the plans below are the consumer ones.

Four Plans, Moving Prices

Review sites disagree on exact figures because Higgsfield changes its plans often, so ranges are shown:

PlanMonthly price (reported)Credits per month
Free$00
Starter$15 to $19200 to 270
Plus$47 to $59 (about $39 on some annual listings)1,000 to 1,200
Ultra$99 to $1293,000

Per credit, that works out to about 7.5 cents on Starter, 4.9 cents on Plus (3.9 cents billed annually) and 4.3 cents on Ultra (3.3 cents billed annually). A Higgsfield credit therefore costs roughly 7 to 15 times what a Kie credit does. Since each service charges a different number of credits for the same kind of output, the per-clip comparison further down matters more than this ratio.

The Free plan is a trial of the interface: zero credits and one parallel generation.

What Credits Buy

Reported credit costs per generation:

  • Kling 3.0: about 6 to 10 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, up to 25 for 10 seconds at 1080p
  • Seedance 2.0: 23 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, 45 at 1080p, up to 90 for 10 seconds at 1080p
  • Wan 2.7: 8 to 25 credits depending on length and resolution
  • Sora 2 and Veo 3.1: 40 to 70 credits each
  • Nano Banana Pro: about 2 credits per standard image, about 4 at 4K

Expiry is the part people miss. Subscription credits reset at renewal and do not roll over. Credit packs and auto-refill credits expire 90 days after purchase. Plus and Ultra also include seven-day unlimited windows on selected models, such as Kling 3.0, but those work on the website only, not through the API or other tools.

Two Different Products

A search for a direct head-to-head review of the two turns up nothing, which makes sense: they sell different things. Kie AI is a developer wallet. Higgsfield is a creative app with a subscription. This comparison uses each platform's own numbers.

The 100 Generations Test

Here is what 100 of each job costs, using Higgsfield's Plus rate of about 4.9 cents per credit:

100 jobsKie AIHiggsfield (Plus rate)
Nano Banana Pro images, 1K or 2Kabout $9about 200 credits, roughly $10
Kling clips, 5 secondsKling 2.1: $12.50 Standard, $25 ProKling 3.0: 600 to 1,000 credits, roughly $29 to $49
Veo 3.1 clipsabout $128 at 1080p4,000 to 7,000 credits, roughly $196 to $343

Model versions, clip lengths and resolutions differ, so read the table as a scale, not a verdict. Still, the pattern is clear: images cost about the same on both, and Kie pulls ahead on video, by roughly 1.5 to 2.7 times on Veo 3.1.

💡 Quick formula: on Kie, monthly cost is credits per job times jobs per month times $0.005. On Higgsfield, divide your monthly credit need by each plan's allowance and round up to the next plan. If you land just above a plan limit, check whether a cheaper model tier brings you back under it.

Monthly Budgets That Add Up

Marketing team gathered around a whiteboard in a bright meeting room

A solo creator making 40 clips a month. On Higgsfield, 40 Kling 3.0 clips use 240 to 400 credits, which fits inside a Plus plan at a flat $47 to $59 with room left for images. Through Kie, the same volume of Kling 2.1 clips costs $5 to $10, but you need to build or find a front end first.

A small team making 500 images and 60 videos. On Kie, 500 Nano Banana Pro images (about $45) plus 60 Veo 3.1 clips (about $77) land near $122. On Higgsfield, the same work needs roughly 3,400 to 5,200 credits, which is more than Ultra's 3,000, so expect Ultra plus a credit pack, somewhere around $150 to $225.

Raw prices leave out the hidden costs:

  • Developer time to wrap the Kie API and build a review screen
  • Retries after HTTP 429 responses during bursts
  • Storage to keep files beyond the 14-day window
  • Lost credits on Higgsfield when a month ends or a pack passes 90 days

Who Should Pick Which

  • Pick Kie AI if you write code, run batches, and can store your own files.
  • Pick Higgsfield if you want an editor, a mobile app and a predictable monthly bill without touching an API.
  • Pick neither if you want many models in one browser tab with no billing code to maintain.

Plenty of studios end up with a hybrid. Art directors who iterate by eye keep a Higgsfield seat, while bulk jobs such as product photo variations or social cutdowns run through an API wallet. The split works because the two bills do not overlap: one pays for people clicking, the other pays for scripts running overnight.

Where PicassoIA Fits In

PicassoIA is a browser platform with more than 500 models, so the models that both services resell sit one click apart:

NeedPicassoIA models
Photoreal imagesGPT Image 2, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 5 Pro
Cinematic videoSeedance 2.0, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Sora 2
Fast video draftsVeo 3.1 Fast, Seedance 2.0 Fast
Prompt writingClaude Sonnet 5, Gemini 3.5 Flash

PicassoIA's own GPU models, such as PicassoIA Image, are free to generate on the Infinite and Wonder plans. There is no credit table to decode, no 90-day expiry clock and no 14-day file window to race against.

The PicassoIA API

If you do want code, PicassoIA has a Replicate-style API at https://api.picassoia.com/v1 with bearer token authentication. Jobs are asynchronous: create a prediction, poll it, then fetch the result. Each account can run 5 predictions at the same time. Four models are available through the API and the MCP connector: PicassoIA Image, PicassoIA Image Editor Pro, PicassoIA Video and Seedance 2.5 Lite. Plan requirements for API access change, so check the PicassoIA API page for the current terms.

How to Use Seedance 2.0 on PicassoIA

Solo creator filming a product video at a table with a softbox

Seedance 2.0 is the model Higgsfield charges 23 to 90 credits for, and it generates dialogue, sound effects and music in the same pass as the picture. Here is the browser route:

  1. Open the model page for Seedance 2.0.
  2. Write the prompt as a short scene: subject, motion, camera move, light. Put spoken lines inside double quotes so the model voices them.
  3. Add a first frame if you want to animate a still. You can also pin a last frame to control how the clip ends.
  4. Set duration, resolution and ratio. The defaults are 5 seconds, 720p and 16:9. A duration of -1 lets the model choose the length.
  5. Keep audio on unless you plan to score the clip yourself.
  6. Generate, preview and download.
SettingWhat it does
Reference imagesUp to 9, for character and style consistency, tagged as [Image1], [Image2] in the prompt
Reference videosUp to 3, for motion and camera style
Reference audioUp to 3 clips, 15 seconds total, for lip sync
SeedRepeats a result you liked
Aspect ratio16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 21:9 or adaptive

💡 First frame images and reference images cannot be combined in one generation. Pick the one that fits the job, and use Seedance 2.0 Fast when you only need a rough draft of a scene.

Make Your Own Images and Videos

Pricing tables only tell you so much. The fastest way to find out which route fits your work is to generate a few of your own images and clips and look at the results. Open Picasso IA, pick GPT Image 2 for a photoreal still, send that still into Seedance 2.0 as a first frame, and compare the output against whatever you are paying for today. If the result holds up, you have just saved yourself a wallet to top up and a plan to renew.
