Seedance 2.5 API: Price, Release Date and Free Trial

Seedance 2.5 opened to users in China on July 31, 2026, and API pricing now runs from about $0.10 to $0.23 per second. Here is the release timeline, a cost table for 5, 10 and 30 second clips, and every free way to test the model, including unlimited Seedance 2.5 Lite and the PicassoIA API.

Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's newest video model, and it promises something most generators still can't: a 30 second clip with dialogue, sound effects and music rendered in one pass. Since the rollout began, the same three questions keep coming up. When did it launch? What does the API cost? Can you try it for free? The answers are scattered across ByteDance pages, cloud gateways and reseller listings that don't always agree with each other. This article puts the numbers in one place, shows the arithmetic behind them, and flags every spot where sources contradict each other. Figures were checked in early October 2026, and anything that comes from a reseller instead of ByteDance is labeled that way.

What Seedance 2.5 Actually Is

Seedance 2.5 takes a text prompt, a photo or a set of reference files and returns a finished video with the audio already mixed in. You don't get a silent clip that needs a sound pass in another app. Seedance 2.5 on PicassoIA exposes the full feature set, and this is how the specs line up across the listings checked for this article:

The 30-Second Clip Limit

Most competitors still hand you 5 to 10 seconds and expect you to stitch shots together. A 30 second ceiling changes how you plan a scene, because one prompt can now hold an establishing shot, a close-up and a line of dialogue. The catch is that billing follows length, so a 30 second clip costs six times what a 5 second clip does. On the Seedance 2.5 model page the default is 5 seconds, and setting duration to -1 lets the model pick the best length for your prompt.

What Goes In, What Comes Out

The reference system is the real headline. You can attach up to 30 reference images to hold a face, an outfit or a product steady across shots, then call them in the prompt as [Image1], [Image2] and so on. Reference videos ([Video1]) transfer camera motion, and audio files ([Audio1]) drive lip sync. A first frame and last frame pair is also supported, although it can't be mixed with reference images. Spoken lines go inside double quotes, and the model renders mouth movement to match them.

Seedance 2.5 Release Date Timeline

A hand circling a date in red pen on a paper wall calendar

Dates are where the sources disagree most, so here is the timeline as far as it can be documented:

DateWhat happened
June 23, 2026ByteDance previews Seedance 2.5 at the Volcano Engine FORCE conference
Late June 2026The BytePlus model ID dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628 appears, and its suffix suggests a June 28 build (an inference, not a confirmed date)
July 31, 2026Public rollout begins in China through Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro
August 7, 2026Listed by some trackers as the release date
September 2026Rate cards appear on BytePlus and on gateways, while Dreamina still shows the model as coming soon in some regions

From Preview to Public Rollout

The June 23 event was a preview, not a launch. Real access started on July 31, when Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro opened Seedance 2.5 to users in China. If you see August 7 quoted as the release date, that is a real entry on some trackers, but none of the sources explain the gap. July 31 is the earliest public date this article can back up, and it's the one to use if you're writing about the launch.

Where the API Stands Today

A developer typing at a laptop in a bright loft office with a video preview open beside the code editor

At launch, ByteDance described BytePlus ModelArk API access as coming soon. Since then, rate cards have shown up on BytePlus and on gateways such as OpenRouter, CometAPI and WaveSpeed, which list Seedance 2.5 with 4 to 30 second durations and 480p and 720p tiers. A CometAPI page updated on September 3 still noted that pricing and model details were public while broad API access remained unconfirmed. In practice that means the API exists, but how easily you can get an account depends on the route you pick.

💡 Tip: Before building on any endpoint, run one 5 second test at 480p. It costs about 50 cents and tells you more about queue times and output quality than any listing page will.

Seedance 2.5 API Price Breakdown

There is one official pricing model and several resellers layered on top of it. ByteDance bills by tokens, not by seconds, so the first job is turning tokens into something you can budget.

Token Rates From BytePlus

BytePlus lists $10.70 per million tokens for requests without video input and $6.40 per million tokens for requests that include a video. On the Chinese side the official rates are ¥70 and ¥42 per million tokens. The official examples show how tokens map to time: a 5 second 16:9 clip costs ¥3.36 at 480p and ¥7.56 at 720p. Divide those by the rate and you get roughly 48,000 and 108,000 tokens, or about 9,600 tokens per second at 480p and 21,600 at 720p.

One warning: input video counts toward token use, so the lower video-input rate doesn't automatically make a request cheaper.

Cost Per Clip Length

Using the $10.70 rate for requests without video input, this is what a clip costs. These figures are calculated from the token counts above, not copied from a price page:

Clip length480p720p
5 seconds$0.51$1.16
10 seconds$1.03$2.31
30 seconds$3.08$6.93

Per second, that is about $0.10 at 480p and $0.23 at 720p, which matches the $0.103 and $0.231 rates CometAPI shows. A 30 second clip at 720p lands near seven dollars, so ten drafts to find the right take would run about seventy. For reference, a tracker published on July 15, before launch, guessed between $3.60 and $13.50 for a 30 second clip. The 720p figure landed inside that range, and the 480p figure came in just under it.

💡 Budget tip: Draft at 480p with a 5 second duration, then rerun only the winning prompt at 720p and the length you actually need. Each draft costs roughly 90 percent less than a finished 30 second 720p render.

Reseller Prices Differ

Gateways add their own margin and billing units. WaveSpeed lists text to video and image to video from $0.90 per 5 seconds at 480p and $1.80 per 5 seconds at 720p, prorated per second between 4 and 30 seconds. That works out to $0.18 and $0.36 per second, about 56 to 75 percent above the BytePlus list rate. In exchange you get a playground, one API for many models and, in some cases, starter credits. Whether that trade is worth it depends on your volume: for a few dozen clips a month the convenience wins, and for thousands the margin adds up fast.

Free Trial Options That Exist

ByteDance has not published a standalone free API trial for Seedance 2.5. What does exist falls into three buckets, and only one of them has no meter running.

Official Free Credits

Dreamina's landing page lists free daily credits for Seedance 2.5, which the pricing trackers describe as enough for light testing but not sustained production. The amount depends on your account and region, and the feature still showed as coming soon in some regions. That is the app route, not an API trial. Some gateways also give new accounts starter credits: WaveSpeed says its free credits are enough for a few dozen playground runs before billing starts.

Unlimited Seedance 2.5 Lite

The most generous option is Seedance 2.5 Lite, a lightweight edition built for volume. Wonder members run it with no per-clip cost and no daily counter. It renders at 480p and 720p, produces 5 or 10 second clips with synchronized audio, and accepts a text prompt, a first frame and an optional last frame. It isn't the 30 second flagship, but for iterating on prompts, free and unlimited beats rationing credits.

Using the PicassoIA API

PicassoIA runs a Replicate style REST API at https://api.picassoia.com/v1. It currently exposes four models, and one of them is picassoia/seedance-2.5-lite, which gives you the Lite edition of Seedance 2.5 with synchronized audio over a plain HTTP call.

Endpoint and Access

  • Base URL: https://api.picassoia.com/v1
  • Authentication: a bearer token created in your account settings, sent in the Authorization header
  • Create a job: POST /v1/models/picassoia/seedance-2.5-lite/predictions
  • Check a job: GET /v1/predictions/{id}
  • Concurrency: 5 predictions queued or running at once, shared across tokens and MCP connections, and extra calls return a 429 error

💡 Check your plan first: the docs say API predictions are currently free and use no credits, but they also say creating one requires an Infinite plan, and calls without it return a 403 plan_required error. Confirm which applies to your account before you build a workflow on it.

Your First Request

Here is the request from the PicassoIA docs, with the prompt swapped for a simple test:

curl -X POST https://api.picassoia.com/v1/models/picassoia/seedance-2.5-lite/predictions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PICASSOIA_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"input": {"prompt": "a paper boat sailing down a rainy street", "duration": 5}}'

The call returns a prediction id right away. Poll the GET endpoint until the status reads succeeded, then download the MP4. Jobs are asynchronous, so build your code around polling instead of waiting on a single long request.

How to Use Seedance 2.5 on PicassoIA

For clips longer than 10 seconds or scenes built on reference files, use the full model on the Seedance 2.5 page. No code is needed.

Step by Step

  1. Open the model page. Go to Seedance 2.5 on PicassoIA.
  2. Write the prompt. You have up to 2,000 characters. Describe the action in order, and put spoken lines inside double quotes.
  3. Add media if you need it. Upload a first frame, or attach reference images, videos and audio files. Remember that first and last frame inputs can't be combined with references.
  4. Set the duration. The default is 5 seconds. Use -1 to let the model choose the length.
  5. Pick resolution and aspect ratio. The defaults are 720p and 16:9. Switch the ratio to adaptive for first and last frame, editing and extension modes.
  6. Generate and download. Leave audio on, press generate, and save the MP4 or MOV when it finishes.

Here is a prompt that uses the dialogue feature:

A woman in a camel coat walks into a rainy train station and says "Platform nine, please." The camera starts wide, then dollies in as she checks her watch. Ambient station noise, distant announcements, soft piano underneath.

Seedance 2.5 or Something Else?

Not every shot needs a 30 second flagship. These PicassoIA models fit neighboring jobs:

ModelBest for
Seedance 2.5 LiteFree iteration on 5 or 10 second clips with audio
Seedance 2.0Text to video with built-in audio
Seedance 2.0 MiniText to video with native audio in a smaller edition
Veo 3.11080p video from text
Kling v3 VideoCinematic video generation
Wan 3Cinematic video generation

When 2.0 Is Enough

If your shots are short and you don't need a cast of 30 references, Seedance 2.0 is a sensible default, and its pricing ladder has been public for months. Seedance 2.5 earns its price when you need a long single take, a dialogue-heavy scene or one character held steady across many shots.

Mixing Models in One Project

A workable setup costs very little: draft in Seedance 2.5 Lite until the prompt behaves, then carry that exact prompt over to the full Seedance 2.5 for the final render. You spend your paid budget on the take you already know works.

Start Making Clips Today

Release dates and rate cards are useful, but one test clip tells you more than any of them. Open Seedance 2.5 Lite on Picasso IA, write a three sentence scene with one line of dialogue, and render it at 480p. If the take works, send the same prompt to the full Seedance 2.5 at 720p and stretch it toward 30 seconds. Try a vertical version for social, a second take with a different seed, and a reference image to hold your character steady. A few experiments will show you whether the model fits your project long before any invoice arrives.
